The Ray Chair

The Ray was designed and created during my study at the Danish International School, where we studied principles of furniture design, and learned a great deal about important Scandinavian furniture makers. The Ray chair is comprised of three interlocking components, a bent butterfly shape and two triangles. It is wrapped with 30m of paper cord, enough to cradle the head.  The cord transfers from the butterfly form to the triangle forms at a juncture that allows the user to completely float above the horizontal supports. Sitting in the chair is similar to the feel of lying in a hammock and it is fondly named after a sting-ray I once met in Texas.
